It’s Flashback Friday! I hope you will have family vacation memories to share too!

Happy Friday! One of my hopes to-do on this Friday is to continue encouraging parents to make sure that you plan to travel with your kids too if you can!  On this Flashback Friday I am remembering Florida family vacations.  Orlando has so much to offer a family to experience and enjoy together.  So much has changed and evolved there since my last visit so I know that I’ll need to get back to see all the new expansions soon.

It’s not too late to book your 2017 family getaway if you haven’t done so already! It’s also not too early to begin planning for your 2018 vacation either!

I was a newbie Travel Agent back in 1986! This was my 2nd trip to Disney World when I took my oldest daughter and my niece to visit the Mickey Mouse neighborhood, 30 years ago!

We made sure to include a visit to SeaWorld on our family vacation in 2005.

We realize that many families can’t or are just not that interested in traveling out-of the country with their children.  TLC Travels’ Tours and Cruises is commited to including affordable domestic-travel vacation options for families to enjoy too.

Beaches Resorts Welcomes Walkaround Julia to Their Sesame Street Team in Jamaica and Turks & Caicos!

By now, I am sure that you have heard all about Julia the Muppet who has Autism being the newest  character to join the Sesame Street crew. Julia made her debut on an episode of Sesame Street recently with a primary focus of bringing awareness and knowledge about #Autism.

Nine Waterslides at Pirates Island Waterpark

Julia, the 4-year old, red-haired Mupphet with Autism is scheduled to be included this Fall in the Sesame Street cast of characters that can be found interacting with children and families vacationing at Beaches Resorts in Jamaica and Turks & Caicos! Beaches is also now home to the #Caribbean’s first Autism-Friendly Kids Camps! Beaches is the first resort company in the world to complete the rigorous IBCCES (The International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards) training and Autism Certification!

In a press release we received 4/11/2017, #BeachesResorts announced the following statement:

“Following the landmark television debut of Julia, a new Sesame Street Muppet with autism, Beaches Resorts is proud to announce the walkaround character’s arrival to its resorts in #Jamaica and #Turks_Caicos beginning this fall. With a new exciting activity in tow, Julia’s debut also continues Beaches Resorts’ partnership with Sesame Workshop, the non-profit educational organization behind Sesame Street, and expands the resort company’s exclusive Beaches Resorts Caribbean Adventure with Sesame Street® program, now in its 13th year of partnership.
“We created #BeachesResorts as a concept for everyone and it’s our privilege, particularly during #AutismAwarenessMonth, to announce the addition of Julia this fall as part of our exclusive relationship with Sesame Workshop,” said Adam Stewart, CEO of Beaches Resorts. “As a resort company that also celebrates that children have a remarkable ability to see amazing in all people, we are excited to introduce more inclusive programming for families with children on the #spectrum of which Julia will play a part in,” he concluded. As a proud sponsor of #SesameStreet, Beaches Resorts is the only #Caribbean resort company to offer engaging activities with a colorful cast of walkaround characters including Elmo, Cookie Monster, Super Grover, Zoe, Bert and Ernie, Abby Cadabby, The Count, Oscar the Grouch, Big Bird and, soon, Julia. With an already exciting roster of hands-on activities available at Beaches Resorts, from Baking with Cookie Monster to Story Time with Elmo, Julia will bring forth a new activity, Amazing Art with Julia, just in time for the fall season. In this activity, children will be greeted by Julia a 4-year-old girl character who has #Autism. Julia, who loves to paint, will highlight how people can express themselves through art. Using a range of materials, children will have the opportunity to explore, experiment and create in this open-ended art activity. Afterwards, children will talk about how they created their piece (colors, lines, shapes, etc.) and how their artwork is a celebration of who they are and their unique self!
“We launched our autism initiative, ‘See Amazing in All Children‘ to promote awareness and acceptance and to combat the stigma and isolation so often experienced by children with autism and their families,” said Steve Youngwood, COO, Sesame Workshop. “Initially a digital character, Julia has come to life on Sesame Street, and now as a walkaround character who is sure to bring joy to children. We’re thrilled to work with our long-time partner, Beaches Resorts, to extend our work around diversity, acceptance, and kindness.”

“Sesame Workshop debuted Sesame Street and Autism: See Amazing in All Children in 2015 to help increase awareness and understanding of autism. Julia, introduced last year in digital form, now comes to life as a Muppet on a special Sesame Street episode. Other Sesame Street and Autism: See Amazing in All Children resources include digital videos, books, and e-books, available in both English and Spanish. For more information, please visit sesamestreet.org/autism.

As part of Beaches Resorts’ brand-wide efforts to increase awareness of autism, staff underwent initial training with “Sesame Street and Autism: See Amazing in All Children resources. Complementing these efforts and continuing its commitment to create memorable experiences for all families, Beaches Resorts has partnered with The International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES), a global leader in training and certification programs, created to meet the training needs of professionals who work with individuals with special needs and cognitive disorders.

Through the partnership, which is ongoing and provides intensive training for team members, each of the resorts’ Kids Camps and its early childcare staff have earned the distinction of Certified Autism Centers, ensuring team members have the requisite knowledge, skills, temperament and expertise to cater to all children. As the first Caribbean resort company to complete the rigorous IBCCES training and certification, Beaches Resorts has demonstrated it provides a safe, fun and comfortable experience for families with children with autism and other special needs so that all families may enjoy the resort company’s award-winning experience.”

The Secret to Happiness? Spend Money on Experiences, Not Things

Be honest with yourself, are those $500 jeans going to make you happy tomorrow? Next week? Now how about a $100 pair of jeans and a $100 massage every Friday for the next four weeks? Trying to look like a movie star or a fashion model is a pricy endeavor and in the end the only one who comes out ahead is your credit card company. Instead of spending your hard earned bread on clothes and jewelry to make yourself look better, spend that money on activities that will make you feel better.

Group Travel: What is The Group Leader’s Role?

There is a huge umbrella hovering over the descriptions of “Travel Group Leader” but in an effort to drill it down as it pertains to us, this is it. When we at TLC Travels’ Tours and Cruises posts; “Looking for a Group Leader”, we are referring to a person that can organize a travel group of 10 or more potential travelers who want to experience one of our promoted destinations together.

DV_beach_friends group

Some travel groups we work with are classified as:

Affinity Groups: Family and Friends traveling together.

Faith-Based Groups: Spiritual and/or like-minded Religious people traveling together.

Special Occasion Groups: Destination Weddings, Anniversary, Birthday celebrations.

Business or Organization/Association Members traveling together.

The Group Leader of a travel group will also be the appointed contact person relaying much of the communications between myself, the group’s Travel Coordinator at TLC Travels’ Tours and Cruises, and members of its conformed group who are traveling together.

Seniors_group-travel

Advantages of Senior Group Travel

Each group’s dynamic is different so the intensity of the role of “Group Leader” operating as a “Liaison” between the traveling group members and the group’s Travel Coordinator will vary with each group. One of the primary functions usually includes, Communication:

** Organizing group meetings to convey important travel information to the group members about their upcoming trip needs to happen. With the technology available to us as it is today, meetings can conveniently be scheduled to occur Online- (Chat, Webinars, Email, etc.) as well as over the telephone as needed. **

Although direct communication also occurs between members traveling in the group and myself for specific Q&A sessions as well as collecting Deposits and Final payments to post on their confirmed reservations, we usually designate an official “point of contact” or “Group Leader” for each travel group as well. Regular ongoing communications throughout the booking process leading up to the group’s departure, during the trip and after their return are usual and customary.

CCL_Charleston-fun-day-at-sea

If the role of “Leader” for your Travel Group sounds like something you would like to take on to get your group trip planned and booked, contact me. Various benefits are offered for taking on the task of “leader” for your travel group and for traveling as a group entity itself. Most of the Travel Partner companies we book with provide discounts and other special offers for group travelers. The benefits of group travel vary by Tour Operators but are usually very generous for the group leader as well as the travel group members.

Once you have a conformed group of at least 10 potential travelers who are seriously willing, ready and financially able to get started with booking reservations with the required deposit payments, TLC Travels’ Tours and Cruises is available to work with you as your group’s Travel Coordinator. We want you and your group to experience one of the exciting pre-planned destinations that we promote.  We are continually adding to our list of destination offers so check back periodically as well as on our Facebook page.
